Position Title: Child Protection Officer

Location: Emerald or Woorabinda

Employment Status: Full Time – Contract – SACS Award 2010 –

Remuneration $54K + salary sacrifice benefits

Reporting to  Community Development Practitioner
Purpose of the Position


  • To provide front line case management service, advocacy  and support to Indigenous children in the child protection system
  • Participate in decision making, investigations, assessment, case planning, organisation and delivery of service provision and interventions
  • Follow Assessment and Case Management procedures, standards and reporting requirements and contribute to continual improvement
  • Build respectful and professional relationships with service users, agencies, partners, community, colleagues and clients
  • Work at all times to advance the reputation of CQID and undertake additional relevant duties as required
Essential Criteria/ Qualifications
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage and/or extensive community and cultural connectedness and endorsement of a recognised local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
  • Experience appropriate to the role and willingness to acquire qualifications
  • An awareness and understanding of Indigenous communities and cultures and the historical and contemporary issues relevant to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, and proven capacity to communicate appropriately A demonstrated thorough knowledge of child protection issues, legislation and requirements and relevant issues specific to Indigenous children
  • Proficiency in MS Office, use of contemporary office equipment and data entry.
  • First aid and CPR (or willingness to acquire during probation)
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence, Current Blue card, Police Check
Essential Criteria/Experience Child Protection Officers will demonstrate experience in:

  • Front line case management of vulnerable Indigenous children.
  • Liaison with a range of services including Court, Police, Legal and Health
  • Efficiently undertaking and completing administration tasks including program reporting and data collection
  • Excellent communication skills including interpersonal and written
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, time management, team work and coordination skills in the office environment
  • Providing an excellent customer service
