In early December 2010, key stakeholders came together to discuss the future directions of Central Queensland Indigenous Development (CQID). The meeting brought forward a new suite of principles, goals, objectives and strategies for CQID, which are detailed in this document.

Strategic planning is not easy for any organisation. A review of literature for strategic planning methodologies which account for cultural awareness identified a paucity of such instruments. Accordingly, the Strategic Plan which we have produced and the processes we used to generate it represent a comfortable combination of cultural awareness and contemporary strategic planning practices. At CQID, we believe this combination is a good reflection of us – we remain culturally aware whilst ensuring that what we do is innovative, contemporary and wherever possible, best practice.

CQID is committed to generating and leading positive social change for Indigenous Australians and other people in our communities. While our specific goals and objectives may vary from time to time, our first priority is and always will be ensuring that social change with positive outcomes is a constant part of the communities, agencies and individuals that comprise the Indigenous nations of Central Queensland, Australia and wider communities.

The next three years for CQID will be busy. We will be relocating to our new premises, identifying new programs while we continue to deliver best practice in our existing programs and each day, reminding ourselves why we are here at CQID. If we continue to do our very best, with a shared focus and enthusiasm, I believe that in 2013 we will have achieved the objectives of this Plan and will be in a good place in terms of financial viability, staff stability, program delivery and reputation within our communities.

Thank you to the people who contributed to the development of this Strategic Plan. Your time, your opinions, your humour and your contributions are valued threads in the tapestry which is our Vision, Mission and Plan.
