Why become a carer

Our goal is to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children can grow up safely in their own cultural community.

Foster and Kinship Carers provide stability and care to children who can’t live at home, while a process is implemented to safely reunify the child and parents.

The period of care may be short, long or if reunification isn’t possible, permanent.

Financial Compensation

Financial support is available to meet the costs of caring for a child.
A fortnightly allowance is paid by the Queensland Government to help meet the day-to-day costs of caring.
The size of the allowance depends on the age and needs of the child
Carers may also be eligible for Family Tax Benefit.
All children have their own Health Card.
